The Kiowa Six

S1 Episode 139

There’s more than meets the eye at 609 Chautauqua Ave. on the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman. This unassuming house was the epicenter of American Indian art in the early 20th century and a home away from home for a group of six Kiowa Nation students. Together, under the tutelage of Oscar B. Jacobson, they would represent a watershed moment for indigenous art and change what it means to be an “American artist.” Join us as we explore the journey of the Kiowa Six from St. Patrick's Mission School in Anadarko to international critical acclaim.
