Our story is Oklahoma’s story.
During the Land Run of 1889, Guthrie served as a water stop and land office on the Santa Fe Railroad until April 22, 1889 when the city was “born grown.” It became the capital of the Oklahoma Territory and was the center of government and commerce through statehood on November 16, 1907. Guthrie served as the state capital until losing the designation in a 3-way race with Shawnee and Oklahoma City. The move of the territorial capital never stopped Guthrie’s progress and its economic impact on the state of Oklahoma. Guthrie continues to grow, rooted in its unique architecture and the grace of a one-of-a-kind past.
