Our story is Oklahoma’s story.
The town of Okemah was named for a chief of the Kickapoo tribe. Each July, the town celebrates their native son with the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival featuring multiple artistic mediums such as song, poetry and art. Many of Okemah’s buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Citizens and visitors of Okemah alike admire the community’s passion, especially their strong sense of pride through the arts and historical preservation.
