Hometown of Hall of Famer Carl Hubbell.
Our story is Oklahoma’s story.
A town called Clifton was established during the opening of lands in 1891, but when the railroad came through, it bypassed Clifton. Local residents decided if they couldn’t bring the rail to their town, they’d go to the rail. They moved their town to the railway and called it Meeker. Though it began as an agricultural community, when industrial plants were built nearby and better highways were constructed, Meeker became a bedroom community for Shawnee and Oklahoma City. The town is also known as the hometown of National Baseball Hall of Famer Carl Hubbell, who is known for striking out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, among many others in the 1934 All Star Game.
