From whiskey town to Disney inspiration.
Our story is Oklahoma’s story.
Stroud started from humble beginnings in 1892 when James Wrexel Stroud decided to build a post office and general store on his land. Stroud became more notable due to its proximity to Indian Territory, which had banned alcoholic beverages, because of its status as a “whiskey town” -that is, until statehood in 1907, when the entire state went dry. Today, Stroud is known as the halfway point between OKC and Tulsa along the Turner Turnpike – and as home to the Rock Café, whose owner inspired a character in Disney’s Cars.
